Pre-K to 8 Distance Learning Update

March 18, 2020 | 305 views

Dear Pre-K to 8 Parents,

Schooling is always a partnership. In a distance learning environment, especially so at the lower and middle grades, this partnership becomes the champion of learning. The success of this endeavor is dependent on careful planning by dedicated faculty, student engagement, and strong parental support. The clear goal of these distance learning days is to be analogous to the students’ experience on typical days at school: to interact, to engage, to grow, and ultimately, to learn.

Our faculty will continue to partner with parents to engage students in this experience. They will continue to carry forward their instrumental role in guiding, supporting, and challenging students to take on new responsibilities and to become excited about new learning. In the coming days, parents and students will receive communication from homeroom teachers, advisors, and other course teachers. The goal will be to communicate specific distance learning plans in regard to grade levels and courses moving forward. It will be imperative for our parents (and students) to check emails, the Assignment Page, and Google Classrooms on a regular basis as we become dependent on these forms of communication.

As we plan for distance learning, ALL Pre-K to 8 parents will need to retrieve important items, classroom materials, instruments, and in some cases, devices from school. In the interest of safety and efficiency, we have streamlined the pick-up process for all Pre-K to 8 parents. Parents are asked to use the inner carline lane (the one closest to Thatcher Hall). As you enter the carline, parents should pull up to the front of Thatcher Hall’s main entrance. Angela, Wendy, and I will be on hand to retrieve items that have been collected and compiled for all Pre-K to 8 students in The Commons. To avoid social gatherings, parents should remain in vehicles unless instructed otherwise.

We are offering two pick-up times:

Thursday, March 19 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Friday, March 20 from 8 to 10 a.m.

While this is a time of uncertainty and challenge, it is also a time that provides us with unlimited opportunities to connect. Our faculty is prepared for this challenge. Our students are prepared for this challenge. Our parents are prepared for this challenge. Darlington is prepared for this challenge.

Thank you in advance for your unwavering support. As Darlington’s alma mater unites us, “Forward ever be our watchword conquer and prevail.”

Sincerely,

Hope Jones
Director of Pre-K to 8
