Reports to the Director of the Student Health Center

 

Collaborating with Student Life Office, faculty, parents and Heads of House; the Nurses strive to assist students in achieving and maintaining optimal health so that effective learning can occur.

 The Nurse must have a valid license to practice in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse and must maintain certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. Malpractice insurance is required.  This nursing position will be responsible for working the day shift (two days one week, three days the subsequent week) and on weekends (Saturdays 10 am - 11 pm and Sundays 10 am - 10 pm on a rotating basis).  

 

Responsibilities

  •  Provides medically prescribed treatments, administers medication and ensures compliance, assesses ill students and provides care to same, provides first aid to students and staff.
  • Maintains comprehensive medical records including physical, permissions to treat and participate in athletics, health insurance, urine drug screen and immunizations.
  • Documents care given or arranged in the Health Center.
  • Maintains Health Center supplies and equipment including an emergency bag and tracking AED and Epi-Pen expiration dates.
  • Assist resident students in arranging medical appointments and facilitates transportation to appointments. Arranges for filling prescriptions and provides appropriate documentation to medical personnel.
  • Files insurance claims.
  • Communicates with parents as needed to facilitate student health.
  • Assists with registration and reviews physicals to identify medical conditions for all students at Darlington.
  • Develops individualized student health care plans.
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical/private information confided by students, faculty and staff, and parents.
  • Provides training to faculty and staff, e.g. Bloodborne Pathogen, CPR/AED, Epi-Pen use. Assists with asthma, diabetes, and epilepsy education as needed and provides other in-service as indicated.
  • Participates in student centered team meetings, as needed.
  • Participates in continuing education opportunities directly related to school nurse issues.
  • Attends community meetings and assists with developing new policies e. g. Flu Pandemic Planning and Preparedness, School-wide Health Promotion Policies
  • Follows policies and procedures of Darlington School
