Darlington seeks a web developer, preferably with strong experience with full stack web development using Microsoft ASP.NET Core and SQL Server or similar. Darlington School is unique in that it develops its own in-house Web site and student information system which serves the critical day-to-day operations of the School. The position is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining existing and new information systems for the School, to include policies, systems, procedures, strategic plans, and special projects. Job Description

  • Maintains and continues to expand all parts of the School’s Web-based student information system;
  • Develops, maintains, and supports the School’s external Web site within a team that includes I.T. and the Communications Office to insure coordinated marketing, public relations, advertising, and branding efforts;
  • Creates and maintains new pages and interfaces of the school Website including programming, visual design, and user interface, not excluding writing and photography.
  • Works with faculty, staff, and other Darlington constituents when developing new areas of the Web site and information systems, with a particular vision towards organizing projects effectively and interpreting user needs;
  • Manage higher level data management aspects of the student information system such as school year transitions, restorations, reporting, and creation of administrative interfaces;
  • Clean up of data integrity issues, touch up of inconsistent data, and tune-up of database performance across a wide range of data structures;
  • Integrates external information systems as needed with internal systems through the use of APIs, JSON, or other techniques, and provides vendor support as needed; external systems would include Blackbaud (fundraising, financial, and admission), library, emergency alert, and marketing. 
  • Establish and support the needs of both internal and external users of the Web site, including monitoring usage, controlling permissions/passwords, and general troubleshooting;
  • Support other members of the information technology team when needed, including tasks related to the day-to-day support of I.T. needs for the entire school, particularly in the area of laptop and tablet support.
  • Administer the School’s related servers including: security access, performance tuning, capacity planning, replication/backups for recoverability as needed, applying and testing critical updates to the servers, data analysis, and creation of new databases as needed; 
  • Keeps informed of the latest changes in the industry, implementing technological developments, advancements, and strategies where practical and necessary;
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

Characteristics

  • Extensive experience with a wide‐range of technologies, including HTML, ASP.NET Core (or similar such as MVC), C#, Javascript, ASP.NET, SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft Visual Studio, mobile technologies, Windows client and server platforms and networks, Active Directory, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, and many types of Internet applications;
  • Able to conceptualize, develop, and execute complex ideas;
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze departmental needs as well as proactively identify inefficient processes, and then make recommendations and implement solutions; 
  • Able to work across departments with a wide range of people at all levels to accomplish goals, in one-on-one and group situations, and to maintain effective working relationships;
  • Ability to speak well and write, proof, and edit for correctness, effectiveness, and clearness;
  • Relational database development implementation and design skills;
  • Understanding of multimedia, including audio, video, and interactive media;
  • Appreciation of the importance of good design for communicating small and large amounts of information;
  • An understanding of how a school works and an appreciation for Darlington’s mission.

 

Experience Needed

  • Advanced computer skills with software, networking, and hardware;
  • Demonstrated success in conceiving, planning, and implementing a range of Web-based information systems;
  • Relevant degree, experience, and demonstrated ongoing professional growth;
  • Experience in a school environment is preferred.
