We are in the process of creating our new ELA-8 Makerspace here at Darlington School. What is a Makerspace? In simple terms, it is a space that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that students can engage in learning experiences with real-life connections.
With the addition of an ELA-8 Makerspace to complement the thriving Upper School Makerspace that was founded a few years ago, all Darlington students will have the freedom and dedicated space to design, engineer, fabricate, create, build and collaborate. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker, create, and develop something that may not have been possible to imagine without a space with resources, and we cannot wait to see the critical and creative thinking and learning that will happen with the expansion of our Makerspace program.
We are so excited to bring this opportunity to our students, but we want to have our families involved in the process. As you clean out closets, playrooms, craft spaces, junk drawers, or the workspaces in the garage, please keep our Makerspace in mind. New items are welcome as well. Please see the Makerspace Supply Wish List linked above.
If you have any items from the wish list around your house that you are willing to donate, please either email, call or drop off items at Thatcher Hall this summer. Thank you for always supporting this division.
Remember, a collection of resources and supplies does not define a Makerspace. Rather, we define it by what it enables: MAKING.
