Maker Kitchen Challenge

Recently, my Upper School Design Thinking class completed a project called "Maker Kitchen Challenge". The purpose of the challenge was to create something that has not been invented. Partners were provided with a box of materials such as cardboard, straws, two motors, and a cable. There were several rules we had to follow:

  1. Use everything provided in the box.
  2. Figure out how to use the motors and cables to make something on your invention move.
  3. Select 4 items from the "kitchen" to enhance the invention. Kitchen items include markers, stickers, and other useful items.
  4. Name the invention and present a "pitch" to the class encouraging others to "purchase" your item.

I worked with Rhema to create the "Autovinyl". Picture the Amazon Echo but for vinyl records! You can request a specific record to be played, and the Autovinyl will go get the record and play any song requested. This project was challenging because we had to think of something that has not been invented and use all the items provided.
