The Darlington and Thornwood Classes of 1968 celebrated their 50th reunion during Alumni Weekend last year. Class Agents Cathy (O’Neill) Dollar, Jim Moore and David Muschamp worked hard to plann a party that included a fun night of dancing and a live band.
David Muschamp ('68) shares his thoughts on Alumni Weekend and the Class of ‘68 50th reunion:
What was your favorite part of planning your 50th Darlington/Thornwood reunion?
I have such great respect for both Cathy and Jim (co-class agents), and their enthusiasm for wanting a live band was just overwhelming. Securing the financial support from so many of our classmates certainly surpassed our expectations. Additionally, Newton's gesture of honoring Reagan by underwriting all other expenses was a meaningful contribution to the event. I am so proud of our class agent team.
What was your favorite part of attending the Class of 1968 Darlington/Thornwood 50th reunion weekend and why?
Easily, the Saturday night dance. Everybody partied like it was 1968, and it was so nice to see so many classmates, some of whom I literally hadn't seen since graduation. I believe the Thornwood girls really appreciated the band as circumstances 50 years ago rendered their senior dance without a band. Jim's already calling for another dance at our 60th reunion in 2028!
Why should Darlington alumni attend Alumni Weekend?
The people. All the Day Dogs and T Girls literally grew up together in Rome. The Dorm Dirt became our brothers for a window of 1-4 years, which created a unique and special bond. One could say that circumstances placed us together at a critical time in the '60's, and it's important to occasionally gather to recognize and celebrate these friendships. The Class of 1968 is now in the winter of our lives, and the reality is that we literally won't have that opportunity for many future reunions at five year intervals. I hope we'll hold to our pledges to stay in touch, to perhaps gather in smaller groups on informal occasions, and to polish those moves for the next dance.
