Light the Lake to be held March 29

March 28, 2019 | 540 views

The Darlington Community will come together on Friday, March 29, to honor and remember the lives of those affected by cancer at the 11th annual Light the Lake, coordinated by the Upper School Community Service Leadership Team. Over the course of the evening, attendees will walk hundreds of laps in reflection around a luminary-lit Silver Lake.

The event will officially kick off at 6 p.m. with a performance from the fourth and fifth grade chorus. At 6:30 the luminaries will be lit and then a special Walk of Honor will take place, as cancer survivors and current patients lead participants around the heart of the Darlington campus. Students, faculty, parents and friends are encouraged to move about Silver Lake throughout the evening as student performers entertain in The Cove.

Light the Lake is free to attend, but any and all donations will be graciously accepted. All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to local non-profit organizations Cancer Navigators and Summit Quest.

Cancer Navigators is an independent, community-based non-profit organization funded by donations from citizens and businesses of Northwest Georgia, and by grants from private and public organizations. Through education, counseling and access to valuable resources, Cancer Navigators is available to help ease some of the difficult emotions cancer patients may experience and help keep a sense of control over their diagnosis and treatment.

Summit Quest provides strength, hope and service to children in families affected by cancer through support programs and activities. Their various programs  include support groups, outdoor adventure trips and support efforts for individual families in need. All programs are provided at no cost to the families being served and are made possible through community support.

At the event will be opportunities for the Darlington Community to learn more about the evening’s highlighted organizations and to take part in a variety of activities. There will also be live music throughout the evening.
