I have been writing music since I was five and performing in front of others since I was eleven. I’ve always been incredibly romantic about the arts, specifically music, and when I first heard of the chance to foster this through Darlington I was ecstatic.
Throughout the year, I consolidated all previous songs I have written, as well as new ones, and I took the time to refine them. My goal for this project was to have the songs unofficially recorded by the end of the first semester, and then to use the second semester as a time to perfect the existing project and perform several of the songs for feedback. My plan was to perform at school events such as Fall for the Arts, Light the Lake, and the Senior Show, as well as other events outside of Darlington School. I had the opportunity to perform in the library, and it was the first time I had performed solo in four years. The performance was a challenge in its own way, but I was so excited to be singing in front of an audience again apart from my performances with Concert Choir and Darlingtones. I sang two covers, "Stay" and "Tyler Durden".
While I have been anxious at times about the time limit I gave myself to produce an entire album, the excitement I have felt has encouraged me to stay motivated and realize the potential in this project. I think music is a language that connects us all, as a true window to the soul, so I am excited to be able to release my own, allowing others to see into my soul and hopefully inspiring them to bear their own. My mentors were Ben McVety and Kim Tunnell. They helped me with which production softwares to use as well as performance opportunities.
The pandemic did effect my project significantly. I didn’t have access to as many recording opportunities or lyrics, but I continued to work on the project and still have the album set to release in a week. I hope you enjoy listening to my first single "Fire". I have released the single on Spotify and Apple Music as well.
