Day #SeniorSpotlight: Izzie Warden

Jennifer Collins | March 30, 2021 | 335 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Izzie Warden, a four-year day student from Rome who loves theater, The Inkslinger literary magazine, and Dungeons & Dragons.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“Hit The Ground Running” by Alice Merton

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?
“Sherlock”

What house are you a member of?
Regester House

What are you involved in at Darlington (clubs, sports, fine arts, leadership positions, etc.)
The Inkslinger literary magazine art editor, theater

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
Theater because I love being on stage and I wanted to try singing in front of an audience.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
Mr. Hudson's DnD room in the Science Building. I have nothing but fond memories going in there and playing with my closest friends. It was also a nice quiet space to relax when you don't want to go to the library.

Who's your favorite teacher and why? (You can name more than one.)
Mr. Allen. We have always gotten along really well and I genuinely love talking to him about Psychology in and out of class.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
The variety of people you can meet there and the general openness of the community to those who don't fit in the norm.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Just going in and talking to my teachers about stuff like DnD or just random research I found interesting and having them show genuine interest back. The teachers at Darlington are ones I would like to be friends with after I graduate.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have gotten more confident in myself and I am not nearly as shy. My freshman year, I never went into The Growl because I was terrified of the people inside, but by the end of my junior year I was going there on a regular basis and singing in front of audiences for the first time.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I am going to my dream school, Emory. I would love to go into Psychology or Criminology. Understanding how people work is fascinating to me, and I would love to do that for a career. Plus, ever since I was little I’ve wanted to be the world's real-life Sherlock.
