Remembering Life Trustee Harold Storey

It is with sadness, and also a grateful heart, that we share news of the passing of Darlington School Life Trustee Harold Storey. Harold lived a remarkable life and truly got the most of his 99 years on earth. Like so many others, Darlington was fortunate that he shared his wisdom, candor, humor, kindness and vision with us.

The lessons learned and lessons shared are too numerous to list as anyone who came in contact with Harold left better for the experience. In one of our last times together, lunch at the Olive Garden a couple of years ago, he was laser focused on what he considered a huge problem in our society, hunger and food deserts. What I took away that day was that I was in the presence of a man who would never stop learning, who would never stop serving, and who would never stop looking for a better way. He was an inspiration to me and to so many others.

Harold served Darlington as a volunteer in many ways over the years for The Darlington Fund, Planned Giving Committee and as a Life Trustee. He was also a member of the J. Daniel Hanks (’27) Heritage Society.

Perhaps most significantly, he was a key member of the Board of Trustees of Thornwood School at the time of the proposed merger of Darlington and Thornwood. As he always did, he led with grace and humility and created an environment of partnership and forward-thinking that bettered the educational opportunities for students locally and around the world.

Harold and his wife, Rena, are the parents of Rena (Storey) Henderson (’71T) and Harold M. “Hal” Storey (’75).

Thank you, Harold, for your lifetime of service beyond self.
