Day #SeniorSpotlight: Sophie Drake

Tannika King | March 15, 2022 | 497 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight, get to know Sophie Drake, a 10-year day student from Rome who runs her own art business, Simply Sophie.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Tigers, honor, integrity

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?
“We're All in This Together” from “High School Musical”

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Grey’s Anatomy” or “One Tree Hill”

What house are you a member of?
Regester House

Tiger Experts, volleyball (grades 6-10), JV tennis (grades 8-9), Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, High School Leadership Rome XXXIII

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
When I played volleyball, EJ Hunt, the community coach, was my favorite. He was always there to help, he made practice fun, and would always work with you if you needed help.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
I have been in art for many years and have always loved painting the most. I have an art business outside of school called Simply Sophie. Painting is an outlet for me to forget about all other worries and that is why I love it so much.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Growl because it is a place where you can hang out with your friends and have fun.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Atkins because she was always there to help you when you needed it. She never made you feel bad if you made a bad grade, but instead helped you improve. She is the sweetest teacher I have ever had.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?
Our schedule because we have a lot of free time to help with homework. My other favorite thing is the community because it is so diverse and you are able to meet people from everywhere.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The fact that there are people from everywhere and you have the opportunity to get very close with them. It’s an amazing thing and I don't know many others my age outside of Darlington that are able to have this experience.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have learned different ways to study and improvise, and  I have grown in so many aspects because I am surrounded by many different types of people.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?
I want to go to the University of Georgia and my dream job is marketing.
