June 2, 2022 | 360 views

Welcome to Episode 60 of The Darlington Podcast!

In the last of three special Commencement episodes, listen to Sam Moss ('63), retiring dean of college guidance, give his Baccalaureate address on May 13. Moss was selected by the senior class to serve as the Baccalaureate speaker. Following an introduction from Honor Council President Mary Mac Pittman ('22), Moss reflects on his time as a student at Darlington and shares stories that have the audience laughing time and time again. He closes with well wishes for the Class of 2022, and hopes that they too will one day be planning their 60th reunion with their Darlington classmates, as he is looking forward to doing next year.

Moss ('63), a member of Darlington's faculty since 1982, is retiring as dean of college guidance in June, though he will continue to live on campus and serve in a part-time role for one more year. During his 40-year tenure, he has taught English and served as dean of studies, Summer Session principal, and associate headmaster in addition to his role leading the College Guidance Office. Following his graduation from Darlington in 1963, he earned his B.A. from Sewanee: The University of the South and his M.A.T. from Jacksonville University with additional study at Oxford University in England.

In addition to his work on campus, Moss is a nationally recognized leader in the world of college guidance. He has served as president of the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC); as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC); as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Association for College Counseling Independent Schools (ACCIS); and served on admissions advisory boards at many universities, including UGA, Auburn, Oglethorpe, and the University of Miami.
