Peru - Sacred Valley Community Service Trip

Thursday, November 28, 2019 | By Taylor Owens | 351 views

20 Darlington students and three chaperones traveled to Peru over Thanksgiving break. Over the course of the week, students visited Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu, and Cusco. In Ollantaytambo, students helped build a sustainable garden at the dormitory for the girls of the Sacred Valley Project.  Many of the girls have to travel to go to school, walking anywhere from 3 to 13 hours from their villages to attend school. During the day, students spent time working in the garden and then reconvened in the evenings to connect and share a meal with the girls from the dorm.  On Thursday, students and faculty made their way by train to the town of Aguas Calientes where they prepped for Friday's hike to Macchu Picchu.  The group returned to Cusco on Saturday for a tour of the ancient Incan capital before making the long return trip home on Sunday.
