Arts Integration with “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”

Friday, February 12, 2021 | By Kim Tunnell | 340 views

Fifth-graders have been reading and studying "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and Mrs. Fine and Mrs. Tunnell led the students through an arts integration lesson focusing on vocabulary from the novel. Students reviewed previously studied and new words and used the syllabic organization of the vocabulary to create rhythms and musical sentences. The combinations of sounds and rhythms developed into sound bites that could be used to create and establish setting and background ideas to help bring the story to life. In this activity the literacy content standards and the music arts standards worked in tandem to provide an equitable, creative and tangible arts integration experience.
