The fifth grade band is working on a new unit that allows for so much creativity! The band is writing their own music to the story book, "We're All Wonders." The theme for the band program this semester is "Where the Heroes Stood and the Music Behind Their Stories." The fifth grade band members have split into small groups in which they collaborate to create small excerpts of music that can accompany a specific page in the story book.
"We're All Wonders" is the children's story book that follows R.J. Palacio's novel, "Wonder." In this story, we see the message of an unlikely hero who overcomes adversity and champions the need for kindness in our world. Each group in the band follows specific guidelines as they make decisions about what notes, rhythms, and sounds really emphasize the words and pictures on each page. They are even learning about transposition so that different instruments can play together! Students are writing down their music and the project is off to a great start!
