In conjunction with their 45th Reunion, Darlington’s Class of 1972 commissioned a portrait to honor one of their most beloved teachers and mentors, the late George Awsumb. Members of the class, along with artist and classmate John Taylor ('72), presented the portrait to Betsy Awsumb and the Awsumb family on Saturday. It will hang permanently in the Zelle Fine Arts Center outside of the George W. Awsumb Cinema Room.
George Awsumb taught at Darlington for 47 years, from 1962 until his retirement in 2009, and served as a mentor to countless students and teachers, always exhibiting "Service Beyond Self." He passed away Sept. 7, 2013.
