Meet Calista

Calista (Harden) Smith (’95, LD ’18) knew as early as sixth grade that she wanted to go to boarding school. She was fascinated by the idea of living and learning in the same space, and jumped at the chance to move from Ohio to Georgia to attend Darlington her freshman year.

Meet Katharine

You might say that Darlington was Katharine (French) Flory’s (’82, LD '20) window to the world. After a transformative three-year boarding experience, she went on to study abroad in college, travel extensively, and forge a successful 30+-year career for a large bio-pharmaceutical company with a global presence.

Meet Dwight

Dwight Hutchins (‘82) attended three different schools in one year as local public schools struggled to comply with the order to desegregate. Meanwhile, one year earlier, Darlington had already enrolled its first black students – one of the first private schools in the South to do so.

Class of 1972

In honor of their 50th reunion, Darlington and Thornwood’s Classes of 1972 have raised more than $600,000 to establish the Lakeside Scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship will be encouraged to interact with members of the class, build connections with each other, and become alumni leaders in the spirit of the Class of 1972.

Meet Andy

A third-generation automobile dealer, Andy Welborn (’85) has been in the family business for over 30 years. Through the years, Welborn has been devoted to Darlington as a parent and currently serves on the Board of Trustees, a role that he sees as a way to ensure Darlington’s continued success.
