The Darlington Swim & Dive team placed third in their home opener on Thursday night against Rome, Holy Innocents’, Cartersville, Dawson County and Floyd County.
Junior Addison Payne opened the meet with a state qualifying score in the 1-meter dive event, becoming the first Tiger on the state team roster this season. Later in the meet, junior Daria Karamushkina broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.39.
Other notable swims include freshman Charlotte Dillmon and sophomore Maya Pandya's first- and second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Anne Marie Wright's top-five finishes in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. The Tigers took second in both the 200-yard medley relay (Pandya, junior Allison King, Dillmon, Wright) and 200-yard freestyle relay (Dillmon, King, Pandya, Wright).
On the boys' side, senior Marcus Mumber led the team with a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Sophomore Link Lignell and Mumber placed second and third in the 50-yard freestyle. The Tigers also placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (Mumber, Jiaho Lou, Lignell, junior Philip Lataif) in third the 200-yard freestyle relay (Lignell, sophomore Joseph Hall, Lataif, Mumber).
The Tigers will resume competition at Adarisville on Dec. 4.
