Kathy joined Darlington School in 1985 as a visual arts teacher and is the longest-serving member of the faculty. Throughout her distinguished career at Darlington, she has taught Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, Art 4, AP Studio Art, and 2D Design, while also serving as a college adviser. O’Mara’s impact extends beyond the art studio, having served in various roles including prom advisor, head junior class advisor, Honor Council advisor, and drama department set designer. Her dedication to excellence has earned her numerous accolades, including the Brown Award, the Athlene Forsyth Award, the R.M. Yankee Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Georgia Independent School Association’s Distinguished Service Award. She is also a member of the Cum Laude Society. Kathy attended Collegiate School in Richmond before earning her B.A. from Mary Baldwin University. Her vision for integrating art throughout campus led to the creation of the senior art collection and the Darlington print collection, as well as an ongoing mural project that has enriched the school’s visual environment for decades. She and her husband, Paul, also a long-serving photographer and substitute teacher for Darlington, have a daughter, Kelly (’08 LD’14).
