Boarding Student Vehicles and Driving Policy

Boarding students in good standing with the school may have cars on campus. Each student is responsible for registering his or her vehicle with the Student Life Office, providing valid proof of insurance, and clearly displaying a Darlington parking sticker on the vehicle. Student drivers must abide by the licensing laws of the state in which they reside and must obey the driving laws of the State of Georgia.

The school does not take responsibility for the care, maintenance, or damage to student vehicles. During the registration process, parents have the option to allow their student driver to operate the vehicle with other students in it. Parents of non-drivers also have the option to allow their student to ride in vehicles with other student drivers. These permissions will remain on file in the Student Life Office. Any changes to these parental requests after the registration process must be submitted in writing to the Dean of Student Life.

The resident faculty on duty will have oversight of the sign-out process of student drivers in their care and the school reserves the right to deny the use of vehicles for reasons including, but not limited to, student behavior, student safety, weather conditions, and time of day.

Any student reported to be operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner, either on or off campus, may receive disciplinary consequences.

Any traffic accident or violation must be reported to the Student Life Office immediately.

Students may not loan their vehicles to other students, nor may they borrow vehicles from other students or faculty members, with the exception of emergencies and appropriate permission.

Students may not drive their cars to sports practices that are on campus. Students can only sit in their or another's car to leave campus and may not hang out in a parked car.

Students who violate the school's Vehicle Policy will meet with the Student Life Office and can expect to go before the Discipline Committee.

Boarding student automobiles must be parked in a designated parking area in the Trippeer parking lot.

We recommend that an extra set of automobile keys be turned in to the Head of House for emergencies.

Boarding students must have permission from their parents and Head of House before riding in a day student vehicle.

In addition to being in good disciplinary standing, resident seniors must be passing all their courses and activities with no grade below 75 in order to have automobile privileges during the academic week (Sunday, 6 p.m. through Friday, 3:45 p.m.).

Boarding students may not keep vans, campers, or motorcycles on or off campus, nor are resident students permitted to rent cars.

Boarding students driving automobiles without permission beyond a 25-mile radius of Darlington or to any city or town outside of the Rome/Floyd County area will receive an appropriate penalty and may lose their automobile privilege for an extended period of time.
