The following faculty and staff members will take on new and/or additional job roles in 2012-13:
Charla Brewster will work part time in the Lower School Teaching and Learning Center, focusing primarily on high-level learners. She has been at Darlington since 1982, serving most recently as a fifth-grade teacher and dean of grades 5 and 6. She has also taught grades 1, 2 and 3 at Darlington. She holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Georgia.
BeBe Cline will replace Charla Brewster as dean of grades 5 and 6. She has been at Darlington since 2005 and currently teaches fifth grade. She holds a B.A. from Mercer University and an M.Ed. from The University of Georgia.
Brant Evans will serve as dean of students at the Upper School, while continuing to teach history and coach football. He has been at Darlington since 2008 and currently teaches U.S. History, Government/Economics and AP Government. He holds a B.A. and an M.Ed. from the University of Georgia.
Julie Fine will teach sixth-grade humanities. She has been at Darlington since 2010, serving previously as seventh-grade English and drama teacher. She holds a B.A. in English from Berry College and an M.Ed. with Certification in Secondary English Education from the University of Georgia.
Jennifer Helbing ('98) has been named Lower School dean and learning specialist. She has been at Darlington since 2007, serving previously as Middle School learning specialist and classroom teacher at the Lower School. She holds a B.S.Ed. from the University of Georgia and an M.Ed. from Georgia State University, and has 10 years of experience in elementary education.
James Hutchins has been named director of Darlington's PK-8 program. A member of Darlington’s Middle School faculty since 2002, he served as associate director and dean of studies before being named division director in 2010. He holds a B.S. from Shorter College, an M.S. from Jacksonville State University, and an Ed.D. and Ed.S. from the University of Alabama.
Rebekah Kinney has been named instructional technology specialist for grades pre-K through 6. She has been at Darlington since 2005, serving previously as a fourth-grade teacher. She holds a B.S. and an M.Ed. from Berry College.
Alan Parish has been named assistant athletic director. He will also teach graphic design and multimedia journalism and coach cross country and track. He has been at Darlington since 2005, serving previously as communication specialist. He holds a B.S. in Graphic Design from Samford University.
Wendy Payne will serve as administrative assistant at the Lower School, effective March 1 of the current school year. She has been at Darlington since 1999, serving previously as Upper School library assistant and pre-K teaching assistant. She is also director of Camp Delightascope. Payne holds a B.S. from Shorter College.
Beth Smith ('87) will teach kindergarten. She has been at Darlington since 1994, serving previously as pre-K teacher. She holds a B.S. and an M.Ed. from Auburn University and has 20 years of experience in the classroom, 18 of which have been with Darlington's early childhood education program.
Kate Willingham will teach seventh-grade English. She has been at Darlington since 2011, serving previously as fifth-grade humanities and drama teacher. She holds a B.A. in English from Sewanee: The University of the South.
