Senior Avery Cypress, competing in a Darlington uniform for the last time, went out with a bang, medaling in three events at the GHSA track and field championship.
In his best event, the 800 meters, Avery placed 2nd with a time of 1:57.03.
Click here to watch a video. It was over two seconds faster than his PR (personal record), and the fastest time run by a Darlington athlete in the 800 since the 1990's.
In the 1600 meters Avery ran a 4-second PR of 4:30, placing 5th. He was joined in the 1600 by Spencer Fields, who ran a 7-second PR of 4:37 and placed 11th.
Spencer also competed in the 3200 meters, placing 5th and breaking the elusive 10-minute barrier for the first time, bettering his previous PR of 10:05. Jared Deaton also competed in the 3200, placing 15th in his first appearance at the state championship.
Senior Reeves Brown placed 8th in the long jump with a PR of 20 feet, 6 inches. Senior Ian Winder placed 6th in the 400 meters.
Avery, Reeves, and Ian were joined by Chris Edwards in the 4 x 400 meter relay, placing 3rd in the State with a time of 3:26.13.
