Darlington is one campus, one community and one school, and, beginning in the 2015-16 school year, Darlington’s Student Publications will produce a one-school yearbook.
The decision to print this historic yearbook is the result of months of deliberation and consideration through the synergy of Student Publications, the Fine Arts Department, the Communication Office and the administration. Due to careful planning and coordination, no stone has been left unturned in this process. Even though we are only in our preliminary stages of development for this publication, I can promise that there are big things that Student Publications has in store for this 90th edition of the Jabberwokk Yearbook.
Originally, I was not convinced that a one-school yearbook was the best course of action. Off the bat, I was skeptical. However, as the days and weeks progressed, I felt more at ease with the idea as I saw how one-school yearbooks really tie together the schools that print them.
Mrs. Forgette, the Student Publications adviser, showed me examples that demonstrated the sense of community that a one-school yearbook instills in its students. Then, after research of my own, I realized that, in order for our school to truly think, act, and live as one, there must be a professional historic reference that intertwines the lives of all Darlington students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
The implementation of a one-school yearbook adds the possibility of reflection, upon not only the lives of students in ELA-8 or the Upper School individually, but rather how all divisions of the school came together as one. Also, the one-school Jabberwokk throws light on the student body as a whole as it reveals the spectrum of singularity in the day-to-day happenings of the school.
For this reason, I support the production of a one-school yearbook and will work every day in order to provide content of the highest quality that represents all students and age groups sufficiently. I am confident in the Student Publications staff and its ability to deliver the excellent 2016 one-school Jabberwokk that I know it will be.
Finally, I am very honored to serve as editor-in-chief of Student Publications and to have the opportunity to lead the production of this historic yearbook.
