Darlington’s middle school boys’ golf team recently claimed a third consecutive win of the spring, remaining undefeated after taking first over Cedartown and Rockmart. In the most recent match, the boys ended at 157 with the top four scores to defeat Rockmart Middle School. Eighth-grade student Lindsey Cordell finished on top with a 35. He has now shot 7-under-par for his last three rounds.

"Lindsey is playing golf at a level I've never seen before from someone his age. It is absolutely astounding what he is doing on the golf course right now," said Coach Kevin Ivester ('87). "The kid is playing flawless golf, and it is an incredible thing to watch.”

Also finishing ahead of Rockmart were fellow eighth-graders Carter Anderson at 39, Karson Swiger at 41, Hank Crawford at 42, and Spencer Shadday at 47.

Starting his golf season off on a good note in his first two games, Cordell shot back-to-back rounds of 3-under-par at the Coosa Country Club and Meadow Lakes Golf Course.

“He works extremely hard at his game and has perfect mechanics,” said Ivester. “His mindset and course management are light years beyond his age and when all those factors come together, you end up shooting 33 in a tournament. Those types of scores just don't happen often so it is a joy to watch this firsthand."

In the first match of the season at Coosa Country Club, the Tigers shot a score of 173 from their top four golfers. In addition to Cordell's 33, Crawford carded a 44, while Anderson, Shadday and Swiger all had 48s. In the second match at Meadow Lakes, the top four shot 169—Anderson with a tremendous round of 3-over-par, followed by Shadday at 10-over, and Crawford at 11-over.

"The whole team is playing really well right now, especially our eighth-graders," added the coach. "Carter has shot back-to-back rounds of 39, and Hank, Karson and Spencer have all shot in the 40s consistently."
