Darlington alumna and Soccer Academy standout Jane Campbell ('13) continues to amass a collection of accolades, having recently been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a series of upcoming events.
“We could not be more excited to see Jane competing at this level,” said Chad Liddle, director of the Darlington School Soccer Academy. “She is really finishing out her Stanford career on a high note and all of us at Darlington are very proud. This is a logical next step for Jane in her soccer career and we are confident that she is going to do great things on the field.”
Head coach Jill Ellis named 24 players to the training camp roster, according to U.S. Soccer. Eleven of these players, including Campbell, have yet to earn a cap with the team; however, all players have previous U.S. Youth National Team experience at the Under-32 level or younger.
Campbell, the reigning Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year, is in the top five in Stanford history in nearly every major goalkeeping category. She has logged the most minutes of any Cardinal keeper all time, is third in shutouts (32) and saves (196), and fifth in goals-against average (0.63).
As a student at Darlington, Campbell was a member of the Soccer Academy and varsity basketball team. During her senior year, Campbell was honored with the Most Outstanding Female Athlete Award and was voted by her classmates as "Most Likely to be on ESPN."
"What makes Jane different is her work ethic, and the fact that she is so driven and goal-oriented," said Liddle. "She has known since she was at least 12 years old that she wanted to play in the Olympics. Sure enough, she is on that path. Jane would wake up, go to class, and train three to four times each week during her downtime. She was able to train more for the sport than any of her peers outside of the Soccer Academy because everything was here on campus.
“Even today, when Jane is back in Georgia, she always makes a point to come to Darlington and train with us for a day or two,” he continued. “That means a lot to us. Jane is a tremendous athlete and role model, and we cannot wait to see what else she is able to accomplish."
In high school, Campbell became the youngest goalkeeper ever to be called into a full U.S. national team camp at the age of 17. She also played on the club team Concorde Fire South and ultimately competed on the U.S. National Team in the 2012 FIFA U17 World Cup. In 2011, she was named NSCAA Youth Girls Player of the Year and was a two-time NCSAA Youth All-American.
