Some faculty, staff to take on new roles

The following faculty and staff members will take on new and/or additional job roles at Darlington in 2017-18:

John Cox will be chairman of the English department. He has taught English at Darlington since 2000 and was named Thatcher Chair of English in 2009. He is also director of intramurals and a member of the house duty staff. Cox holds a B.A. from Southeastern Massachusetts University and an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts. For his service to Darlington, he has received the R.M. Yankee Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching and is a two-time recipient of the Parents Association Excellence in Teaching Award. He and his wife, Sunny, have three children, Alex ('13), Jade ('16) and Samanda ('18).

Cindy McGehee will be an Upper School learning specialist. She has spent the last three years as a middle grades learning specialist at Darlington and was an Upper School learning specialist during the 2012-2013 school year. McGehee holds an A.S. in Optometric Technology from Southern College of Optometry and a B.S. in Finance from Auburn University. She is the mother of Clark Coleman McGehee ('06).

Paige Rogers will be Pre-K to 8 library associate. She has served as a teaching assistant at Darlington since 2012, most recently working with the kindergarten class. She is also a middle grades cheerleading coach and director of Darlington's Camp Delightascope. Rogers holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Shorter University. She and her husband, Keith, are the parents of Kolin ('20) and Isabella ('26).

Randy Smith will be head of Summerbell House, the first-year boys' house. He has taught at Darlington since 2000, serving most recently as a science and math teacher in the middle grades. He is also a current member of the residential duty staff and coaches middle school wrestling and soccer. Smith holds a B.S.Ed. in Math and Science from Georgia Southern University as well as an M.Ed. and an Ed.S., both in Math and Science, from Georgia State University. For his service to Darlington, he has received the Brown Faculty Award and the Beachum Master Teacher Award. He is also a co-recipient of the Carla and Leonard Wood Distinguished Faculty Fellowship. He and his wife, Leigh Ann, have three children, Rand ('18), Lila ('20) and Bradley ('23).
