Barbara Kuckhoff will teach physics at the Upper School. No stranger to Darlington, she and her husband, Eric, are the parents of Thomas ('09), Robert ('12) and Katie.

“I am extremely excited to have Barbara join our Upper School science department,” said Matt Peer, Upper School director. “Barbara and I have been discussing her potential ‘career change’ for the last few years, and I am happy that the stars aligned this time. Our students will greatly benefit from Barbara's knowledge and love for Darlington and her years working in the field of science.”

Kuckhoff holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan. She has spent nearly three decades using science daily while working in various industrial environments. Most recently, she served as product line manager for Cargill Inc. in Dalton, Ga.

The new teacher looks forward to working with students and nurturing their interests to pursue careers in science.

"Teaching is my second career,” said Kuckhoff. “My first career started in chemical engineering and I enjoyed the journey that brought me to business management in the chemical industry. That journey also included raising three great kids with my husband, Eric, and joining the Darlington Community as a parent in 2002.

“Coming to Darlington as a physics teacher now takes me back to my start and my favorite college classes,” she continued. “The students at Darlington are ready to learn and I will enjoy seeing this course material from their perspective as we explore physics principles at work all around us."
