Boling to teach middle grades English

Misty Boling is joining the Darlington Community as sixth and seventh grade English teacher. She has over 32 years of practical teaching experience with elementary and middle school students in a variety of educational settings, most recently at Charleston Day School.
“I am delighted to join the outstanding teaching team for Darlington’s sixth and seventh grade students,” said Boling. “Language and communication are the foundation for all learning, and I am passionate about helping students discover the power of words through reading, writing, and speech. Research indicates that with modern technology and digital entertainment, reading seems to be losing its value in the minds of young people. It is my desire to encourage and empower students to discover the joy, wisdom, and inspiration that comes from reading good books!”
Boling’s independent school teaching career began with lower elementary where her love of reading, nature and science as well as history were all a part of her self-contained classroom. Her strengths lie in recognizing the learning differences among her students and being able to differentiate her instruction so that each child can reach their potential.
“The students (at Darlington) whom I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with were not only polite and engaged, but I was impressed with their willingness to collaborate and learn respectfully,” she said. “It became clear to me that this is an environment where learning is recognized and embraced as a life-long process, a community that I am eager to join.”
Boling holds a B.S. in Home Economics and Child Development from the University of Georgia and Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia College (University of West Georgia). She and her husband Chip are relocating to Rome from Charleston, South Carolina.
“Chip and I are empty nesters with our four young adult children scattered about the country, so we are excited to become part of the Darlington Community,” she said. “Every step along the path that led us to Darlington has been punctuated by the kindness and welcoming spirit of the staff and faculty we have met. We anticipate this new chapter in our life journey to be fun and rewarding!”
