Access your School LIBRARY at Home!

School libraries all over the world are quickly ramping up their digital library collections in repsonse to the conversion of traditional school to distance learning because we all agree on the same fundamental library principle: Students should ALWAYS have access to not only academic resources, but the timeless pleasure of reading.

McCallie-Kennedy Library is ecstatic to announce that the Darlington community can now access our Digital Library Catalog from your homes! We are able to partner with MISBO, a consortium of independent schools that share resources, to subscribe to OverDrive. There are currently 68 other schools that participate in the OverDrive subscription with us. OverDrive provides our school with access to a reading app, SORA.

You can read or listen to a selection of 16,000 ebooks and audiobooks through SORA. To find a book you're interested in reading or listening to, just search for a book, click "borrow" and read or listen to it on your preferred device. You'll have two weeks to read it and then the system will automatically return it to our collection. If a book is "checked out," you can place a hold on it and the app will let you know when it becomes available.

All you need to do is download the SORA app on your phone or iPad, or click this link to access it on your computer! And here are some additional SORA self help resources should you need them. We hope to have made it a little easier to continue your reading journeys throughout this challenging time.  Please contact Melinda Holmes or Michael Jacobs if you have any questions or just to tell us how you like using OverDrive.  We'd love to hear about your experiences as we agree with award-winning novelist Jane Smiley when she said, "Many people, myself among them, feel better at the mere sight of a book."
