Eighth graders took part in their first session of the Darlington School Leadership Institute, a partnership with the University of Georgia's J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, during middle grades exploratory. The purpose of this course is to foster youth leadership in action. This session encouraged students to reflect on their ideas of leadership and to step outside their comfort zone in order to grow their leadership skills. Students created a list of characteristics of a good leader and their own definition of leadership. They presented their ideas to the class in a creative way such as a skit, rap, drawing, or sculpture.
