Welcome to Episode 97 of The Darlington Podcast!

In this episode, Head of School Brent Bell talks with several Darlington alumni who have gone on to successful collegiate athletic careers. He chats with Trinity Andrews ('21) of Oregon State University gymnastics, Cade Brock ('20) of the University of Georgia football team and Russell Shealy ('18), a recent graduate of Syracuse University and member of the men's soccer team. They share about their experiences as Division I athletes and how Darlington prepared them for that experience.

Brent Bell was named Darlington's 11th head of school in 2014. With two decades of experience in education, he holds a B.A. in History from the University of Richmond and an M.S. in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to his work here, Brent was head of Upper School at Randolph School in Huntsville, Ala. He also served previously as assistant headmaster and dean of academic affairs at Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, Va., where he held the E. Craig Wall Family Mastership.

Trinity Andrews ('21) is a sophomore at Oregon State University studying biology on a pre-med track with a Spanish minor. She is a member of the Oregon State women's gymnastics team, where she competes in the floor event. At Darlington, Trinity was on the Student Activities Committee and was actively involved in the art department and Thornwood House.

Cade Brock ('20) is a junior at the University of Georgia majoring in agribusiness. He is a two-time national champion with the UGA football team, on which he plays fullback. He runs DGD Outdoors, an organization dedicated to connected UGA fans and athletes to the great outdoors through guided hunting and fishing trips. At Darlington, Cade was a member of the football and wrestling teams.

Russell Shealy ('18) graduated from Syracuse University in Dec. 2022 with a degree in communication and rhetorical studies. He served as the goalie on the Syracuse men's soccer team, where he helped lead the team to an ACC Championship and NCAA Division I National Championship. After graduation, Russell was drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy, a Major League Soccer club. At Darlington, Russell played on the Soccer Academy and was a day leader in Summerbell House.
