Fourth-graders Miguel Dominguez and Merrill Ostuw were chosen to represent Darlington School as this year's "Terrific Kids" for the Noon Day Optimist Club.
Dominguez is a five-year day student from Rome. He is the son of Mayra Munoz and Miguel Dominguez Sr.
"Miguel has such an infectious and positive personality that everyone in fourth grade values," said fourth-grade teacher Carrie Watterson. "He truly understands the importance of education and takes his learning very seriously. When he is not focusing on academics, he is dribbling and dodging players on the soccer field. Miguel strives to not only understand new concepts taught in each subject, but he also seeks to produce projects with other students at a high level. He is a perfect team player in the classroom, which is a credit to the confidence he exudes as a person and as a classmate."
Ostuw is a first-year day student from Calhoun, Ga. She is the daughter of Sarah and Will Chastain Ostuw.
"Merrill is a new student this year and has both a can-do attitude and a unique ability to make everyone around her more focused and want to also do their best," said Watterson. "She is a well-rounded individual inside and out of school, focusing on dance, theater, school clubs and academics. She arrives at school every day with a positive attitude and ready to set the standard. She participates in each and every class, is a leader in group projects, and seeks her teacher’s input to make sure she is meeting a very high standard on every assignment. Watch out, world, because this Terrific Kid will probably be the president of the United States some day!"
Dominguez and Ostuw were honored along with their parents and teachers at a Noon Day Optimist Club banquet recognizing exemplary students from all schools across Floyd County. Click here to see a gallery from the recognition ceremony.
