Pre-K to 5 Spanish teacher Andrea Shiera recently released three books, entitled "Mi primer libro de Español I, II and III," which are available on Amazon. She created the books to support the learning process for students in primary and lower grades, balancing the Spanish language's own traditions and new ways of learning to keep her students engaged by strengthening their motor, writing and reading skills.
"This is the beginning of a big dream I’m working on making come true," said Shiera. "'Mi primer libro de Español' are three books that go back to the traditional and understand how Spanish foundation works, but they are also the result of what my students enjoy to do to improve their skills. Like I always say, having fun is the best way to learn!"
Shiera has taught Spanish in grades pre-K to 5 and coached middle grades swimming since 2022. She holds a M.S. in Psychology from Universidad Rafael Urdaneta - Zulia and has taught Spanish for the last three years. Before Darlington, she taught pre-K students at The Quadrilingual Academy in Smyrna, Ga., and elementary-aged students at Tabula Rasa - The Language Academy in Sandy Springs, Ga.
Shiera was recently awarded a James Douglas Brown Jr. Faculty Award for her work at Darlington. Nominated by colleagues and selected by the head of school, the assistant head of school for academic resources, and the division directors, a Brown Award recipient is one who has served the school well, in a competent and skillful manner, and one who has an interest in and a dedication to his or her work with the school and with the students.
