My name is Isla McLaughlin and I am a senior boarding student at Darlington. My Senior Ventures Project is the Isla McLaughlin Athletic Club, also known as IMAC, which is a weekly workout class for both the students and faculty at Darlington. IMAC is a workout class for all skill levels and its purpose is to provide a healthy outlet for stress and injury prevention. The 45-minute workout session will be done in the old gym, there are weights and equipment for a class size of 5-10 people. A typical workout will start with a stretch circle, some light cardio work, and then the actual workout.
IMAC will consist of a full-body HIIT workout. HIIT is essentially an interval training workout with the goal of high-intensity training and an elevated heart rate. Although HIIT seems daunting at times, if done with control and not overusing muscles, it can prevent injury on the field for athletes. By doing high-intensity but controlled workouts with the component of stretching, athletes will be able to strengthen specific muscles untimely reducing the risk of something like an ACL tear. With help from Mr. Pitts, a kinesiology major and member of the Darlington faculty, I plan to put out effective workouts that will benefit all who participate in IMAC.
