Here by the Lakeside, we are excited for our fourth annual Giving Day, a day dedicated to supporting The Darlington Fund, which has a daily impact on the lives of everyone in the Darlington Community. This year’s Giving Day is even more important as we celebrate a significant milestone: 100 years of boarding at Darlington.
One century ago, Darlington opened its doors to students from all over Georgia, then the country and around the world. Since then, our tradition of boarding has been a vital component of Darlington’s identity and part of what makes us so unique. We asked our boarding alumni to share one word that comes to mind when they reflect on their boarding experience and no matter if you were a day or boarding student, these words and the connections made at Darlington mean something to all of us -- life-changing, empowering, great, broadening, supportive, and many more.
We are thrilled to continue celebrating this centennial event as part of this year’s Giving Day campaign, which will take place on Thursday, Feb. 15, and chaired by Hollis Ledbetter (’17). Assisting him will be Darlington Fund Co-chairs Jeff Snider (’92, LD ’18) and Brad Large (’05, LD ’20). All three are legacy alumni who have stayed involved since graduating and continue to give back to our community.
We hope you will join them by thinking of a word you would use to describe your Darlington experience -- as an alum, a parent, a grandparent, or a friend -- and share it as you make a gift on this year’s Giving Day!
Last year’s campaign was a great success with over 390 donors contributing more than $130,000! This year, we are aiming to reach 450 donors and surpass last year’s fundraising total. If you have never made a gift, consider making a gift of $19.05 in honor of our founding or $100 to celebrate 100 years of boarding.
