As Darlington kicks off its Alumni Weekend celebration today, the Alumni Office is pleased to announce that R. Crawford Brock ('72) is the recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Alumnus Award.

"No one is more supportive or has better memories of Darlington than my dad and, in my opinion, no one is more deserving of this award," said his daughter, Laura Chandler in her introduction during the ceremony.

Brock, a day student from the Class of 1972 and member of the 1971 state championship soccer team, has built a successful career in luxury retail while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to community engagement. His office at Stanley Korshak, the luxury good specialty department store he has owned since 2002, is adorned with memorabilia from his boyhood in Rome, Ga., reflecting his deep appreciation for his roots.

"I appreciate you giving me this recognition," said Brock. "It’s quite an honor and I’m very proud to have it. It's been a great life. I’m proud of my family and I’m proud of the school."

Brock’s dedication to serving his community is evident through his involvement on multiple boards, such as PlainsCapital Bank and the Meadows Museum. He has also raised funds for various nonprofits, including The Dallas Opera, Cristo Rey Dallas College Preparatory School, and the Texas Ballet Theater, and remains connected to his alma mater, Florida State University.

Family plays a significant role in Brock’s life and business, as his three daughters -- Leigh, Laura, and Helen -- have all worked at Stanley Korshak in Dallas. The store, known for its cutting-edge luxury fashion brands for men and women, has been a platform for the Brock family to create a lasting legacy in the retail industry.

He and his wife, Janet, are proud grandparents to current Darlington students Frances (‘33) and Crawford (‘37). Brock’s Darlington family ties run deep with both his brother, Paul (‘74), and sister, Jenny (‘75), as well as nieces and nephews.

Brock’s commitment to Darlington extends beyond his professional achievements. He has been actively involved in various initiatives, and his leadership of the Lakeside Scholarship Committee has raised over $1 million for the Class of 1972 Lakeside Scholarship Fund. His service and consistent support of The Darlington Fund as a member of the J.J. Darlington Society exemplify his commitment to the Darlington Community and its future generations.

In his acceptance address, he reflected on his Darlington experience and, specifically, the impact of winning the 1971 state soccer championship alongside his teammates, who are still some of his closest friends. He also talked about the importance of having humble grit.

"I won one state championship and I’m still talking about it 53 years later," he said. "It changed who I am."
