In this special series of Darlington Connects blogs, we are excited to share the inspiring stories and impactful work of those in our Darlington Community who embody Darlington’s mission of "Service Beyond Self." Today, we hear from Regan (Maki) Couch ('98, LD ’14).
Since arriving at Darlington in 1995 as a boarding student, Regan (Maki) Couch ('98 LD’14) has been an integral part of our community, leaving an indelible mark on the school and its people. Inspired by her cousin Brooke Irby's (‘96, LD’17) experiences, Regan's journey at Darlington set the stage for her lifelong commitment to giving back.
Regan's love for competition and her desire to make an impact led her to join SOAR (Students Organized to Assist with Raising funds) when she came to Darlington. This experience ignited her passion for volunteering, driving her to become a class agent, Alumni Council member, Leadership Darlington participant, Purple Tie contributor, and a key speaker at various events. Her continuous support of The Darlington Fund since 1998 stands as a testament to her dedication.
For Regan, the essence of volunteering lies in making a difference in the lives of others without seeking the limelight. Her selflessness has extended beyond Darlington, as she's completed mission trips to Kenya and Haiti, and provided financial support to childhood cancer organizations.
Regan's professional career in real estate, spanning from working with her parents after attending the University of Alabama to her current role with her husband, Cal, at Ansley Real Estate - Christie's International Real Estate, has been enriched by her connection to Darlington. Her advice to those considering involvement with the school: "Stay connected in whatever way you can! The relationships and connections I’ve made through Darlington have greatly impacted my professional career and personal life."
Regan's journey is an inspiration to us all, highlighting the power of service and the importance of connections. As we celebrate her achievements and dedication to Darlington, Regan encourages those looking to join the many in our community who give back to follow in their footsteps, building connections and giving back in their own unique ways. She would be happy to connect with Darlington Community members to share her insights and experiences both professionally and personally.
