Welcome to Episode 183 of The Darlington Podcast! 

In this episode, Murray Ellington ('26) talks with varsity coaches Garvin Edwards (wrestling), Andrea Frazier (swim/dive), Betina Fuentes (basketball cheerleading), Samantha Rush (girls' basketball) and Nathan West (boys' basketball) about the winter athletic season at Darlington. You'll hear a little bit about each team and their highlights of the season, from the pre-season to team bonding to their accomplishments and more.

Garvin Edwards has served as academic support coordinator in the Teaching and Learning Center and as head wrestling coach since 2022. He holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Health K-12 from Berry College and has more than 30 years of experience teaching and coaching.

Andrea Frazier teaches Spanish in grades pre-K to 5 and coaches varsity swim/dive. She holds a M.S. in Psychology from Universidad Rafael Urdaneta - Zulia and has taught Spanish for the last three years. Shiera also owned and operated a home-based swim academy for five years.

Betina Fuentes has been teaching English at the Upper School since 2023 and also leads the English Department. In addition to teaching, she coaches both the boys' and girls' state champion tennis teams and the spirit cheerleading team. She earned her B.A. in Secondary English Education from the University of South Florida and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tampa.

Samantha Rush has taught history to grades 7 and 8 since 2016 and also coaches the varsity girls' basketball team and middle school softball team. She holds a B.S. in Education from Shorter College and multiple Georgia Educator Certifications, including Gifted; Behavior Science, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, grades 6-12; Special Education General Curriculum, grades P-12; and Special Education Social Science Cognitive Level P-12. 

Nathan West has served as head boys' basketball coach and assistant athletic director since 2019. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Ala., and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. At the collegiate level, Nathan played a year at Marion Military Institute before transferring and finishing his next three years at Birmingham Southern College.
