The Darlington Community will come together on Friday, April 24, to honor and remember the lives of those affected by cancer at Light the Lake, hosted by the hosted by the Servant Leadership Committee, led by seniors Zach Kimani and Hayes Parsa. This evening will will take place at the Lakeside from 7 to 10 p.m., with an Honor Walk at 8:30 p.m. The evening will conclude with a special candle-lighting ceremony to symbolize this year’s theme, "Carry the Light."

Members of the Darlington and Rome-Floyd communities are invited to be a part of Light the Lake, which will feature student musical performances, activities and more. Guests are invited to spend time that evening walking around the lake, which will be lined with student-decorated luminaries. Dinner will be provided by Creative Dining and other vendors will have snacks and desserts available to purchase, including the Fourth Grade Lemonade Stand in partnership with Blood Cancer United, a club run by seniors Sophie Piller and Sassy Neuman.

"We are bringing Light the Lake back this year because we know how much cancer can impact the people and families affected by it," said senior Zach Kimani. "Light the Lake is not just an opportunity to raise funds for community organizations that support these people, but a chance for the Darlington Community to come together and bring awareness to the impact of cancer."

At 8:30 p.m, a bagpiper will lead the Honor Walk as the honorees' names are read aloud. If you would like to submit a name to be recognized, fill out this Google form or email Jordan West at jwest@darlingtonschool.org

This event benefits two community partners, Cancer Navigators and Summit Quest, who both work tirelessly to support local families whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Light the Lake T-shirts are available to order, with all proceeds benefiting these partners. The shirts were designed by Darlington senior Megan Pinkley. Shirt sales will close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, to ensure they are delivered before Light the Lake.
