In this art project, 5th graders created vibrant heart paintings inspired by the colorful, bold style of Romero Britto. They studied Britto's use of pattern, focusing on the elements of line, shape, and color. Using these elements, they designed intricate patterns around the heart, incorporating a variety of shapes and lines. After outlining their heart and patterns in crayon, they used watercolor to fill in the white spaces, creating a striking contrast. The crayon lines resisted the watercolor, making the outlines stand out and adding an exciting, textured effect to their artwork. This project allowed students to explore both technique and creativity while learning about an influencial artist.
