Summerbell House, the first-year experience house for boys, is one of six residence halls on the Darlington campus and occupies the top two floors of South Hall. Once a student completes his first year in Summerbell House, he has the choice of moving to one of two “upperclassmen houses,” Moser House or Neville House.
Summerbell House is named in honor of former faculty member Jack Summerbell, who worked at Darlington from 1959 until his retirement in 1998. The former history department chairman taught every course in the history curriculum at some point during his tenure. He also served as master of day school from 1971 to 1985 and then as academic dean.
