Darlington alumna Elizabeth (Collier) Bruce ('03) is excited to join the Darlington Community as the head of house for Cooper House, Darlington’s first year experience house for girls. Her husband, Justin, currently serves Darlington as learning specialist for the Upper School.
“I am incredibly excited to come back to Darlington to work with with the freshmen girls in Cooper House,” Elizabeth said. “I have a heart and a passion for working with this age group and I look forward to the relationships that I will build with these students.”
With a decade of experience of working with children and college students, most recently as house parent for the College and Career Program for WinShape Homes, Elizabeth is looking forward to returning to her alma mater.
“We are excited to have Elizabeth Bruce join our team and for the Bruce family to join our residential community,” said Jennifer Rundles, associate dean of student life. “Elizabeth's experience at WinShape and other work with social work organizations brings an amazing skill set to campus that will help us all better serves our students. Also, Mr. Bruce just may lead the house to a RUMPUS win next year!”
Bruce has a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University. She and Justin have two daughters, Annie Ruth and Rosie.
“Darlington has been a special place for my family and as an alum, I am so glad to be able to leave my own mark on the community," said Elizabeth. "I am ready to be back on campus where so many teachers had such a positive impact on my life. It is my goal to pay it forward.”
Darlington's boarding students live in one of six houses on campus, three for boys and three for girls, each managed by a head of house and faculty members who live on campus. The heads of house serve as full-time advocates and confidantes for boarding students, helping them balance structure and routine with opportunities for independence and leadership.
