Fine Arts Makes It Work During a Pandemic

The Fine Arts Department at Darlington is off to a great start! Along with the work done to support the new Darlington coursework framework for classes, the fine arts teachers have also been involved in conversations with colleagues, attending webinars and workshops, investigating equipment, and best possible ways to lead students in artistic experiences.

In Pre-K through 12th grade band, music, and chorus classes, we are adding a layer of protection with additional safety equipment. We’re also making sure that there is time for the air to circulate and support the allowed consecutive 30 minutes of playing or singing time while incorporating many other methods of teaching and learning.

In orchestra, students will wear face coverings and participate in class together while social distancing.

In visual and media arts, we are limiting the sharing of supplies, wearing face coverings, and maintaining our rules for social distancing.

All of our fine arts teachers are cleaning between classes and meeting outside when possible. Students will continue to have the best possible experiences in these classes and extracurricular activities.

We are still working to make plans for our annual celebration of the arts in October and will continue to pursue performance experiences that showcase students in extra-special ways through video and other safe and appropriate means. We will remain fluid in our approach with the ultimate goal of making sure that students are supported artistically.

Thank you in advance for your support of the fine arts at Darlington!

Our school mission and arts curriculum drive us to empower students to learn with passion and to create, respond, perform, and make connections all along the way. We look forward to an incredible year that will share the story of how we came together and created through, responded to, performed in spite of, and stayed connected as a community!
