Day #SeniorSpotlight: Aubrey Abbott

Maddie Chastain | April 13, 2024 | 249 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Audrey Abbott, a four-year day student from Rome who will be attending August University on a softball scholarship this fall.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Freedom, community, exciting

What song reminds you of high school?
“Where’d All the Time Go?” – Dr. Dog

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Gilmore Girls”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Las Palmas

What house are you a member of?
Thornwood

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Varsity softball, varsity basketball, varsity tennis, and dorm leader

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Harris! She has always pushed me to be better and taught me lessons not only on the field, but off of it as well.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Mack Student Center - I love getting time to hang out with everyone and see everyone in one spot. It is a great place to just chill and have fun with your friends!

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Ms. Shores! She had the BEST class. I loved getting to do debates, lots of hands-on activities, etc. She is funny and keeps you engaged during class, while also teaching a lot of material. I learned more from her than any history teacher I’ve ever had!

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
It sounds so basic, but I genuinely love getting to meet people from completely different backgrounds than me. I love to just sit and talk to them and learn about the differences in our culture. That is something that Darlington gives us that no other school in Rome can compete with.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
RUMPUS. It’s the obvious answer, but I love RUMPUS. It’s a time that the whole school comes together to compete, work together, and just enjoy time together. I bond with people during RUMPUS that I may have never talked to during a regular school day. RUMPUS makes everything more fun, exciting, and is something everyone looks forward to.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I’ve learned to become a leader in all aspects of my life. I was always a leader on the softball field, but Darlington helped me have the confidence to lead in other areas (in the classroom, in the dorm, etc.)

What is your dream job?
I want to work in marketing for a big company. I want to travel, meet new people, and work with others to sell the brand I’m working for.

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
Augusta University (on a softball scholarship)
