John Cox

English Teacher, Upper School

John, who has taught English at Darlington since 2000, was named Thatcher Chair of English in 2009 and served as chairman of the English department from 2017-2022. He is also a college adviser, and a member of the Moser House duty staff. For his service to Darlington, John has received the following awards: Parents Association Award 2003, 2005; R.M. Yankee Excellence in Teaching Award, 2006; Brown Faculty Appreciation Award, 2005; Parents’ Choice Award, 2012; Excellence in Teaching Award, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2017; and Significant Contributions to the Darlington Community, 2014. He also had the honor of giving the Commencement speech in 2009. John holds a B.A. from Southeastern Massachusetts University and an M.A. from the University of Massachusetts. He and his wife, Sunny, have three children, Alex (’13), Jade (’16) and Samanda (’18).
